Flowers Artisan Apron

by Nova on January 5, 2015

As previously hinted at, I had the pleasure of playing with the latest fabricy offerings from the girls at Umbrella Prints over the Christmas break. Flowers Collection is a gorgeous selection of prints & colours on a quilters organic cotton base. Lovely.

My pics don’t do the colours justice (partly due to aforementioned camera incident & relying on camera phone only at the mo) but the description of the range does  – the following words  are borrowed from Amy & Carly at Umbrella Prints: ” … We were thinking about the quiet moment when the sun sets, the light is soft and golden, the reds and pinks are saturating the sky and the flowers absorb the last rays of warmth.”  Beautiful.

Lots of project ideas sprang to mind but this one stuck.  I had been gifted Janet Clare’s Artisan Apron Pattern last year by my mum and it’s been patiently waiting in the ‘to make’ pile.  As a pinny lover of old, with a stack of scrummy fabrics to hand & an urge to sew, I was off!

I used a mid weight  linen cotton blend from the stash in a steely bluey grey for the main body of the apron & a cotton voile in light grey  for the lining – a climatic decision to prolong the season of wearability for my new pinny.

I wanted the Flowers fabrics to be the main feature & made the longer length apron so it had a more garmenty feel.

I love the criss x cross back & curve of the hem!

… & around the pockets.  I lined the pockets with some of the Flowers prints – I love those ‘just for the wearer’ secret details – they make a garment (& the wearer) feel a bit special.

The Flowers Collection is available later this month but  you can pre-order your prints & bundles here. What a pretty start to 2015!

Thank you to Amy & Carly for sharing with me x

Wow! I’m not normally a fan of aprons, but this one looks great. It’s so pretty and, being full length, it is so practical. Well done.
