fly the flag quilt along – week 4!

by Nova on September 3, 2013

The quilt as you go technique worked a treat!

fly the flag quilt along - quilting

I went for relaxed quilted lines with the machine & had every intention of adding in some hand stitches. As much as I love a bit of hand stitching on most things it was all starting to  look a bit too much what with the colourful scrappy flags, ric rac & all so I took them out again.

How are you quilting yours? By hand or machine, quilt as you go? However you decide to quilt it just pin those flags out the road as you get to them, it makes life a whole lot easier.

If you’re a bit stuck for inspiration in the quilting department, here’s a few quilty ideas that I reckon would look super cute with the flags & might tickle your fancy…

Clouds – by hand or machine

Woodgrain – by hand or machine

Loops a la Denyse

Gorgeous swirly sky

zig zag around the flag shapes

got some more ideas? share below or in the flickr group

Lots of flaggy awesomeness has been appearing in the flickr group from our merry team of stitchers as the quilt along progresses. Can’t wait to see them as they get quilted & if you’re quilting along, don’t forget to keep adding  those special touches – there’s a prize at the end!

Thank you so much for including my Madrona Road Festival Flags quilt as one of the inspirations. I love echo quilting, it takes a little while but with such a simple top it was fun to give that extra bit of emphasis to the shapes. I’ll definitely be making more flag quilts in future to, great quilt along!
