for Hadley

by Nova on January 19, 2013

I’m not sure about other blog platforms but at the end of the year WordPress send  an annual report full of stats of the who, the what, the when & where  of your blog which brings out the inner geek in me.

In amongst all the facts & figures is a nice little section listing the 5 folks who have left the most comments  over the course of the year.   I am a self confessed hopeless comment leaver on blogs but  I truly appreciate it when a comment pops up in my inbox – it’s always reassuring to think someone is listening ;) Thank you to everyone who takes the time to leave a comment, it really means a lot.

Anyhoo by way of thanks I wanted to make a small token for the gal who left the most comments last year. That was you  Hadley :) Your comments always make me smile. Actually I’ve lol’ed  often at many of them!!!  You’re  a gem. Thanks for listening & being there with a witty remark to brighten my day :)

So  Hadley mate, this is for you, I hope you like it!  It’s practically got your name on it, well, your initial at least.  I stalked your flickr faves & pin boards & hopefully made you something you will like & let’s be honest, a girl can never have too many project bags can she?

project bag for Hadley1 for Hadley project bag for Hadley2 for Hadley

Email  me your postal address & I will get this on it’s way to you asap.

..& while we’re chatting about comments, I try my best to email a reply to each & every comment, apologies if I have missed you in the past.  I’m never quite sure what the comment reply etiquette is these days? Do you like an email or do you prefer reply’s in the comments thread?  Does anyone know of a WordPress plugin that will leave a reply in the comment & send an email notification to the commenter that there is a reply awaiting them?  I’ve heard there is one but not really looked into it before – that would surely be the best of both worlds!

Have a great weekend – keep cool or warm depending on the hemisphere you reside in.

project notes:
project size pouch from Jeni’s Drawstring Pouch Pattern
assortment of aqua, orange & grey 2″ square scraps including Heather Ross, Lotta Jansdotter, Umbrella Prints, Lizzy House, Denyse Schmidt, Amy Butler…

That IS so sweet of you (emphasizing what Ashley said). I didn’t know that it was possible to find the most prolific commenter. I’m new at blogging and find it difficult to post myself, but I read SO (SO) many blogs (200+!) and while I often want to comment, I often don’t because I think mostly I sound like a dork, or taking the time to craft something I think worthy just doesn’t seem in the cards at that moment. But I hear you – getting a comment is really a special thing, isn’t it? That someone who read took the time to say so, to make it seem worthwhile. To put a smile on your face. That’s what they are to me. I feel so inordinately special when I get a comment. I can’t believe that people I don’t even know would take the time – not just take the time, but then say just the NICEST THINGS! So, I’m glad you are acknowledging Hadley, and Hadley – I’ll try to be more like you, and comment more often – not so I can get the bag with my initial (ha), but because it matters.
To answer your question about reply comments, I like them in email – I don’t go back to posts to read threads, but email comes in as “new” to my mail app and I see it.
. . . and then when I do write, I just blather on and on . . . but I mean well :)

What a lovely gesture on your part. Hadley is a kind person and so thoughtful. I wonder if blogger shows those stats. She’d probably be one of my top commenters too.

I once saw a tesselated H quilt picture SOMEWHERE and have tried like crazy to find it again. Did you have a pattern for the bag or did you just wing it?
It’s lovely and so thoughtful!

I was wondering where you have gone, it was so long since your last blogging, input I can´t find the correct word, inlägg it is on Swedish, I have been wondering do you see my little dots above the a I use to make ä. I have 3 letters more you know.

Well it was nice to send Hadley that bag for good comments :)
and I get so excited to receive comments on my blog to, but their is not often english speaking people dare to leave a comment since I write in Swedish. I use google when I don´t understand.
So a good year to you all down under, I have -22,6 dgr celsius today and we will have a barbecue to celebrat that spring is one the way.

Hugs from a frozen little Swed ;)

Oh Nova!!!!! I absolutely love it!

Thank you so much. What a lovely surprise to wake up to!

I would like to say I was so selfless that I would still blog even if I got no comments, but that would be a big fat fib, I feel like I talk to myself enough as it is!

I like email replies as I never remember or have time to check back to see if I have had a response.

I will email you right now xxxxxxxxxxxx

To be honest, once I leave a comment I rarely return to the post so wouldn’t know if some comment was made after mine or not. I read too many blogs to return to posts I’ve already finished. For this reason, I prefer an email.

What a nice idea, and how great that you find out who is your most prolific commenter!

I too prefer an email response as I have barely enough time to read posts and comment as it is, to have to go back to check for a response just isn’t going to happen :)

what a lovely idea! Hadley is a fab commenter :-D
I prefer to get email responses, because I don’t generally go back and look to see if there is a reply in the comments thread.

How sweet! Personally I like replies to appear in the comments section, because then I can eavesdrop on everyone else’s comment-conversations :-) And guess what, Nova? You already have a thing to email people about replies! It’s right here below the comments box – two tick boxes, one saying ‘Notify me of follow-up comments by email’ and one the same but for new posts. Let’s test it – I’ll tick the box now…

Yep. I knew Hadley would be chuffed! She has a wicked sense of humor!
With regards to comments, I reply to every comment I receive with a reply email and have done so to every comment ( except on giveaways!) since I started my blog two years ago! I gave up commenting on blogs where the blogger didn’t reply. It takes no time at all to say thank you.

Love that bag. Not only the patchwork included, also the design and the fabric choice. Great work! Why didn’t I come up with something like this? Very beautiful!

Blogger doesn’t tally up who leaves the most comments for me.
That’s all right — my heart knows who leaves comments.

I don’t reply to each & every commenter – Hadley has me beat there — unless I think a reply is warranted. Then I will present you with a long rambling reply about anything & everything.

I love comments but I love people who take the time to leave comments more.

I really like your “H” bag and may have to figure one out for me – my last name starts with an “H”. Although a “K” bag would be fun to work out.

Isn’t that sweet of you?

I love it when an email reply appears in my In Box. I never remember to go back and check for replies in comments–and, honestly, I don’t expect bloggers to have time to respond, so when a note pops up, I’m delighted.

Nice thing to do. The comment thing is interesting. I blog partly as a record for me to follow my progress but sometimes I wonder if I a crazy lady talking to myself so comments do make me smile. On the other hand I read a lot of blogs (too many really) and don’t always comment especially if the word verification thingy is on. I noticed that email replies always come from American blogs and it has filtered to UK. I don’t always email reply as liking comments I assume they do too and leave a comment on their blog. Perhaps there should be a blog book of etiquette beyond the obvious be nice to people…

What a lovely thing to do! The bag is adorable. I read a lot of blogs and don’t comment often especially if there’s already a bunch of comments. I really should let “my” bloggers know how much I enjoy their blogs and the wonderful sewing projects they post. Thanks for brightening my days!
