learning to knit!

by Nova on February 7, 2012

squee! so excited! I had my  first knitty lesson with my friend Fi yesterday.

learning to knit learning to knit!

I’m making the Rae Scarf by Jane Richmond.

I picked a soft & squishy varigated blue & white cotton yarn for my first practice piece. I am totally lusting after some of the scrumptious looking hand dyed yarns but they are something to look forward to once I have a  bit more  confidence with the sticks.

Thanks for your patience (& yummy cake) Fi x

You will have a fan in Miss Bronte as she loves to knit.

Wonderful, I am always knitting, although lately the quilting has taken much of the time. I suggest that you consider a natural fibre with a little more stretch like wool or a wool blend for your next project – cotton, which I love, is harder as a starting fibre. You are doing beautifully.

Braver than I – I sort of know how to knit, but am absolutely rubbish at it. I crochet instead. You go girl!

watch out, knitting is addicting…and so is cake. The two are a deadly combo that I cannot resist. Looks like you have picked up the knack of knitting quickly!

Look at you go!
Trust you to pick it up superfast and do it well. Not your average beginner… where are all the wonky stitches? Where are all the dropped stitches?
Laceweight intarsia jumper for project 2???
Looking forward to seeing you wearing the finished project next time I see you. No pressure or anything :)

Hurrah! Persevere through the bit where you think you will NEVER knit something without multiple holes and/or meandering edges, and it’s a wonderful skill to have – fun and useful!

Congratulations on joining the horde! ;)
Garter stitch is such a good thing to start with, and a shawl(lette) a good project.
It looks really good so far!

Love your scarf, and for a first time knitter, you did well!
I am a constant knitter, but have never done the pattern you you used. I’ll have to give it a try on my own and see what comes out. I’ll let you know. Thanks for sharing.
