home sweet home

when Aunty Cookie (aka Shannon Lamden) asked if I fancied having a play with her choice cuts, well, that really was too good an offer to refuse!

& so it was that a fun pack of red, white & black landed in my mailbox this week and a quilty plan quickly took shape.

I grabbed a few more snippets from my stash & the scrap bucket that wanted to come out & play too…

& then I got a bit wordy…

It’s no secret I’m a lover of scraps & the letters were pieced entirely from the scrap bucket with odd reds & whites.  They are so much fun to make though the m’s & w made me think a bit!

I’m off to get this basted & quilted over the weekend.

Have a great weekend whatever you’re up to, stitchy or not ;)

notes ::

* grab yourself some choice cuts quick sticks, I don’t think they will last long! The fabric weight is really lovely, it’s a linen cotton blend hand printed with environmentally friendly inks.  I reckon these packs are fab, in fact they are the fabric pack that keeps on giving -  I have leftovers which I have an idea or 2 for too!  Yay!

* letters improv pieced &  inspired by the queen of unruly quilting! You can find Tonya’s tutorials for unruly piecing here & her asterisks here.  Check out her book too!

* other fabrics used:: kona black, chinese red (I did use other solid reds but no idea what they are!) & snow, various scraps of whites & off whites & calico, cosmo cricket tape measure, pippijoe birds on washing line, a Saffron Craig owl, some umbrella prints raindrops, a sliver of echino & another bit of umbrella prints with white petals plus some bliss polka dots. Not sure what the black & red check is, probably something from Spotty?

* approx size of quilt top 44″ x 70″ . The letters are approx 9″ x 7″ & the borders are 9″ x width of quilt.

This is SUCH a cute quilt. I’m normally not a huge fan of wordy quilts, but this one is somehow adorable and modern at the same time.

Wow. I’m sitting here marveling about what you made out of the fabric. I like the step by step way of the pictures and suddenly there’s something surprising. I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

Wow! A very individual and eye-catching quilt.

My weekend? Making QAYG string blocks with DD on Friday, tutoring “no sew grafting” at Knitters group on Saturday, and more stitching goodness (alone) on Sunday!
