a mini

by Nova on May 10, 2011

was made and sent and received.

when Kate sent me my secret partner details in the Down Under Doll Quilt Swap, I was a tad excited.

I immediately started planning. Boro quilts have been on my mind a lot recently & Gee’s bend often comes knocking around these parts.  Inspired by the works of Victoria ( The Silly BooDilly ) & Kathryn Clark,  I  picked up needle & thread & set to work.

Entirely pieced by hand,   I chopped up a vintage table cloth ( rust spots & holes included ;) ) , recycled fabrics, scraps of linen,  some vintage silk threads, a splash of Liberty &  lots of raw edges. I had so much fun making this and fell for the end result a little.

stitch – – –

k – – –

patch – – –

I didn’t add hanging loops to the back so as not to influence a ‘right way up’ or a front & back even.

All wrapped up & ready to go…

I think the boro style & hand piecing is something I will be visiting again :)

How lovingly unique and interesting, Nova. Well done! I’m very inspired by Victoria’s work, too. I just need to release myself from the shackles of quilting rules and try this out!

It is fantastic Nova. So tactile. I want to pull it off my screen and touch your stitches.
You sound like you enjoyed making it as well. :)

This is so lovely. There’s so much detail to focus on and it has such a homey feel. Congratulations on winning the Umbrella Print challenge! I just popped over from there and am enjoying my visit and subscribing now. Best wishes.
