*** My Dr Seuss  raffle to help raise funds for QLD Flood Relief Appeal is still open ! Many thanks to everyone who has brought a ticket! I can’t believe it, we have raised $230 so far from one little cushion! You guys are great! Thank you SO much xxx ***

To complete the story of the redwork quilt I wanted to share my  mum’s redwork blocks all finished :) I have LOVED poring over these. It’s so interesting to see the different approach we both took to the same project. My blocks are more object based while the majority of mum’s  tell a story…

While I drew my designs on paper or traced photos etc, then transferred the designs to fabric, mum pretty much drew most of these straight onto the fabric before embroidering over!  And strangely we ended up with similar subject matter, cups of tea of course, & sewing,  stars, reading, taking photos & more but with totally different results.   I had to giggle too – I have some cute forest friends, deer, squirrel , bunny in mine – mum does too,  only as farmers they class them as vermin, hence the,  her hmm, gun! ;)

They are great! I guess when it comes to cute woodland friends, it’s all in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it? hehe.

I love the variety of subjects & the fact that your Mum has drawn these herself. Beautiful work.

What a shame for me! I didn’t understood that your mother’s blocks were not shown, yet.
They are great, Nova! And really look like embroidery style in previous decades. Honestly! I have seen my grandmothers embroidery (made about 1940). The same line, except the color. She used blue.
Thank you for sharing with us

These are amazing! Oh cannot wait till I start my embroidery lessons in March, looking forward to learning this beautiful art!

Quick question, where would be a good source for purchasing linen? I bought linen but it was a bit on the dark side?

Wow, your mum’s sketches are amazing, especially stitched in redwork! I love hearing that you both used similar subject matter – great minds think alike. What a wonderful treasure to look back on!

Wow, they are just amazing! The two of you have definitely convinced me to try some embroidery in a quilt this year – not sure I’ll be up to the intricacy of those beautiful blocks though!

It´s a treasure! And what story to tell the family in 50 year when you all talk about quilting.
